Smoke Chamber Parging

One of the most common repairs to your smoke chamber is parging. The smoke chamber funnels hot gas from its opening into the flue. Your smoke chamber is directly above your firebox and is susceptible to the same problems as your firebox. Smoke chambers are built using a reverse corbelling method. The method allows creosote build up over time, which could cause a chimney fire.

Parging is applying a coat of mortar to bricks in order to give the smoke chamber a smooth surface. Be proactive and have all the corbelling and holes filled in and smoothed out using a high temp mortar called Chamber Tech. If you live in Indianapolis (or surrounding cities), CMO would be happy to perform this service for you.
