For many people their chimney is just part of their home that is rarely thought about. Next to a bad roof chimneys are a leading cause for water getting into your home. Your chimney is like a house on top of your home. Just like your home has walls and a roof to protect your home so does your chimney. If your chimney's roof "crown" is cracked water is being allowed to soak into your chimneys walls (brick & mortar) causing deterioration. Also cracked brick and non-waterproofed chimneys allow the penetration of water giving you spalling (face of brick popping off) bricks due to the freezing and thawing process. Chimneys that have been affected by this usually only need a partial rebuild or in others just bricks replaced and joints tuck-pointed.
If your chimney has minor cracks allowing water to penetrate your crown. Chimney Savers permanently flexible, environmentally friendly 10 yr. product warranty crown coat is a great repair option for your chimney. Chimney’s that are past the point of no return, where chunks of cement are missing and large cracks are present will need a new crown all together.
Many crowns are made out of mortar and sand where as we use Portland cement with sand, pea gravel and strengthening bars. Our new crown will be 5” thick at center and taper down to 3” so water will not puddle, but run off crown. There will be a 2” overhang to prevent water from running down the side of your brick causing deterioration. With this option you can be sure that your chimney will be protected for many years.
Many if not all chase lids are made out of galvanized steel. With in a couple of years galvanized steel will rust and sag eventually causing leaking into your home. Damage to the exterior/interior walls and floors of your home are seemingly inevitable. With our lifetime, rust free chase lids you can be sure that your chimney will be rust free and keep your home dry! Our custom made stainless steel or copper chase covers fit any size chimney.
Made of 24-gauge stainless steel all chase covers come with a lifetime warranty. A cross break bend on the top of the chase covers prevents snow and water from collecting on the top and eliminates sagging of the chase cover. Drip edges are a standard ½” on all chase covers to shed water away from dripping down the sides of the chimney.
Because chimneys project above the roofline, they are vulnerable to the elements. Nearly every chimney you encounter has signs of water damage! The first step is to determine the cause and then find the best corrective measures. ChimneySaver, developed specifically for chimneys, has been used successfully by leading chimney professionals for nearly 20 years. It reduces water penetration into the masonry by 99.9%. It’s also 100% vapor permeable, which means it won’t trap water vapors that may pass through the bricks when the chimney is in use, unlike other products found in most hardware or home improvement stores. Those products when applied to a masonry chimney can actually slow down water vapors as they pass through the chimney leading to water damage.
WATER-BASE OR SOLVENT-BASE?
Chimney-Saver is available in both solvent (mineral spirits) and water-based formulas. The water-based formula is most popular, however, if a water repellent has previously been applied to the masonry, we recommend the solvent-based formula.
Many chimneys lined with clay liners and mortar do not allow for long lasting use. Any cracks in the tile, gaps in the mortar joints or fallen out mortar can result in serious problems to the functionality and safety of your chimney. The allowance of smoke and embers making their way through your liner could result in a fire. This can also cause draft problems and the possibility of a smoky smell in your home. Using a stainless steel flex liner eliminates the problems that can come from a traditional clay liner flue.
In many cases, when water heaters and furnaces are vented out the chimney, the flew is too large and flews tiles can be broken allowing carbon monoxide into your home. This practice can cause serious condensation and performance problems. When relining the chimney with our aluminum liner you can reduce the condensation problems and improve the performance of your appliances. In many instances appliances not vented into a properly lined chimney will bring corrosion, efflorescent and if not taken care of even mold to the interior and exterior walls of your home.
The Energy Top or Energy Top mount Plus damper provides a better seal against invading animals, birds and insects. Keep heat and air conditioning in the house and protect the chimney interior from the ravages of weather related damages. Comes with or with out animal guard.
After years of fireplace usage your mortar and firebrick and can crack and deteriorate. If not repaired this can cause functional and safety issues to your fireplace and home. If smoke and embers are given access to combustible material you could experience a fire and damage to your home. Get your joints re-mortared and firebrick replaced as needed to ensure optimal function and safety to your home.
Your smoke chamber is directly above your firebox and is susceptible to the same problems as your firebox. Smoke chambers are built using a reverse corbelling method. The method allows creosote build up and over time could cause a chimney fire. Be proactive and have all the corbelling and holes filled in and smoothed out using a high temp mortar called Chamber Tech!
Cut to fit Refractory Panels are manufactured using the highest quality ingredients available. Refractory Panels serve two main purposes:
